LOOKING AT THE FIRST ROUND & WHAT THE EXPERTS ARE SAYING...

1. Adrian Peterson - Minnesota Vikings - Like there should be any question here.

2. Michael Turner - Atlanta Falcons - He’s the No. 2 back on my board, so he goes No. 2 here.

3. LaDainian Tomlinson - San Diego Chargers - His ADP is 6.70, but I really don’t get it.  I know, he’s old by NFL standards at 30-years old, and he “struggled” last season to over 1,500 combined yards and 12 TD.  Maybe I’ll be proven wrong, but if I’m picking at No. 3, I’m going to take him every time.

4. Matt Forte - Chicago Bears - He’s a second year back, so he is still a little bit of a risk.  Can he repeat his ‘08 performance?  How will Jay Cutler’s presence affect him?  Either way, he’s going to be one of the better backs in the league.

5. Maurice Jones-Drew - Jacksonville Jaguars - While some think he’s a “no doubt” performer now that he’s the man in the backfield for Jacksonville, there is reason to be skeptical.  He’s never carried the ball more than 197 times in a season and never exceeded 941 yards.  Still, with 38 total TD in his first three seasons while sharing the load, it’s a pretty good bet that he’s going to be top fantasy back this season.

6. Larry Fitzgerald - Arizona Cardinals - This is a tough decision.  Do you go with the top WR on the board, or some potentially questionable RB?  Considering the production Fitzgerald has posted the past two seasons, I don’t think you can go wrong with him in this slot.

7. Steven Jackson - St. Louis Rams - Injuries make him a risk, but if he stays on the field he’s going to be the team’s entire offense.  We’ll have to take a deeper look into his potential in the coming days.

8. Drew Brees - New Orleans Saints - He’s the top QB in the game, having thrown for over 5,000 yards and 34 TD.  With a healthy Marques Colston, just how much better could he be?  To me, he’s a definite first round pick, though exactly where is up for debate.

9. Clinton Portis - Washington Redskins - At this point he’s the next RB on my board, so he’s going to be my pick in this slot.

10. Frank Gore - San Francisco 49ers - As I said in my rankings, the acquisition of Michael Crabtree should go a long ways to opening up some holes and taking the focus off of him.

11. Andre Johnson - Houston Texans - Two consecutive 100+ catch seasons says it all.

12. Chris Johnson - Tennessee Titans - While he may lose a few TDs to LenDale White (maybe a few is an understatement), he’s still one of the better RB in the league.

LATEST : Fantasy Sleeper Draft News!!!

Warrick Dunn-RB- Buccaneers

NFL.com's Steve Wyche reports that the Seahawks and Eagles have "reached out" to free agent Warrick Dunn.
Both teams would make sense for the 34-year-old, who's played almost his entire career in a West Coast offense. Dunn's best shot at carries would be in Seattle. He'd be third string in Philly, bumping Lorenzo Booker off the roster. However, Wyche says the talks "have been nothing more than exploratory."

Brodie Croyle-QB- Chiefs

Chiefs beat writer Kent Babb writes on Twitter that he believes Brodie Croyle may be a "real threat" to Matt Cassel's starting job.
Croyle is definitely ahead of Tyler Thigpen, but don't read into this much. The Chiefs didn't give Cassel a $60M contract to soak up pine needles. Still, it's concerning that Cassel has struggled in camp and the preseason so far.

JaMarcus Russell-QB- Raiders

The Raiders' passing game immediately began to struggle in practice after losing No. 1 receiver Chaz Schilens to a broken fifth metatarsal in his foot.
Beat writer Jerry McDonald suggests that Schilens could miss "six weeks or more," and notes that fifth metatarsals heal slowly "because of lack of blood flow." Avoid drafting Schilens and JaMarcus Russell in shallow leagues.

Ben Roethlisberger-QB- Steelers

Ben Roethlisberger assured reporters Tuesday that his throwing arm is fine.
"You guys made such a big deal about my arm being sore like, the first three days of practice," Big Ben said. "Hopefully, you guys will start writing that my arm's looking better." Roethlisberger is fine. He's a high-upside QB2 pick.

 Marvin Harrison-WR- Colts

The Titans are not pursuing free agent Marvin Harrison, according to the Nashville Tennessean.
We said as much Monday night, after ESPN reported otherwise. Harrison wouldn't have anywhere to play in Tennessee. Nate Washington, Justin Gage, and Kenny Britt are locked in as the team's 1-3 receivers and Harrison doesn't play special teams. The Jets and Ravens would be better fits.

Plaxico Burress-WR- Giants

Free agent Plaxico Burress testified before a Manhattan grand jury on Wednesday, as expected, in hopes of avoiding an indictment for felony gun possession charges.
ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports that Plax's lawyers are trying to paint him as a victim. "I was truthful, I was honest and I'm truly remorseful," Burress said afterward. "I just want to thank everybody...for their support."

Michael Vick-QB- Falcons

Coach Jim Scwhartz answered "probably not" when asked if the Lions would have interest in Michael Vick.
"With what we've done at quarterback, we've invested a lot at the quarterback position, as you know. There's a first-round pick, a second-round pick, we have Culpepper looking good and coming back," explained Schwartz. With Stafford now the face of the franchise, Vick would be a poor fit.

Brett Favre-QB- Jets

Vikings coach Brad Childress insists he's not upset with Brett Favre despite being left at the alter.
"I'm not let down," Childress said Tuesday night. "Not at all. Brett was open with me all the way through this process, and so I can't be mad at him. He was honest with me." Childress will now try to keep his team together after spending the past couple of months flirting with Favre. We're sure you don't need us to tell you that Childress may be open to revisiting the situation if Favre "gets the itch" again.

 Terrell Owens-WR- Bills

Agent Drew Rosenhaus believes Terrell Owens will be in Buffalo longer than his one-year contract.
T.O. tends to wear out his welcome, so it's far from a lock. Even as he slowly declines, Owens would be a boon to Trent Edwards' fantasy value if he sticks around beyond 2009.

 (IMPORTANT) : Tony Romo-QB- Cowboys

According to People Magazine, Tony Romo broke up with Jessica Simpson on Thursday.
Romo has taken a lot of heat for not being completely focused on his job as quarterback of the Cowboys. If this report is true, Simpson can't be cited as a distraction anymore.

Matthew Stafford-QB- Lions

Beat writer Tom Kowalski says the Lions are "very confident" that rookie QB Matt Stafford will be ready for the start of the regular season.
Kowalski goes on to say that he thinks Stafford will be the Lions' starter in Week 1 against New Orleans. Stafford is battling with Daunte Culpepper for the job. The competition is reportedly tight heading into training camp.

Brett Favre-QB- Jets

Brett Favre and his wife put a $30,000 deposit on a condo in Edina, a suburb of Minneapolis.
This is clue number 7,987 that Favre will be a Viking this season. Expect the rumor to become official sometime before July 20, when the team puts its single-game tickets up for sale.

Edgerrin James-RB- Cardinals

FOXSports' Alex Marvez writes that free agent Edgerrin James "would have to accept a backup spot" if he is to sign with the Saints.
This is likely why Edge won't go to New Orleans. The Saints would use him as a true backup for Pierre Thomas, basically replacing Reggie Bush. Bush is now a slot receiver with extra passing-down value, and essentially no longer a ball carrier. Marvez says the Saints are happy with starting Thomas, meaning they probably won't offer Edge more than the minimum.

James Jones-WR- Packers

James Jones didn't miss a practice during minicamps or OTAs and "looked like he was back to his old self," according to the Packers' website.
Jones, who didn't need surgery for his 2008 knee troubles, declared himself 100 percent and will battle Jordy Nelson for the third receiver job in August. Nelson performed admirably in the role last year, but Jones' experience, red-zone skills, and ability to dominate in the slot may give him an edge.

Braylon Edwards -WR - Browns

Brian Leonard "has to be a favorite" for the Bengals' backup tailback job behind Cedric Benson, according to the team's website.
Bengals.com writer Geoff Hobson points out that Leonard is six years younger than incumbent backup Kenny Watson with a similarly versatile skill set. The Bengals will likely only keep two backs this year. Watson, rookie Bernard Scott, and oft-injured DeDe Dorsey are the favorites for the third slot.

Braylon Edwards -WR - Browns

Assuming that remains the case as the 2009 season begins, he's still worth drafting as a No. 2 WR, but only worth taking after all the elite options are gone. Look for Edwards starting in Round 6 and hope he can play like it's 2007.

Zach Miller-TE- Jaguars

Jaguars signed sixth-round TE Zach Miller to a four-year contract.
Miller impressed onlookers during minicamp season, but he's still a pretty long shot as an undersized (6'4/233) converted quarterback coming from Nebraska-Omaha. The Jags will try to mold Miller into a pass-catching backup for Marcedes Lewis, who's never taken the next step as a receiver.

Joe Jurevicius-WR- Browns

The Browns predictably deny that they were negligent in causing and handling Joe Jurevicius' staph infection.
Remember when this was a nice story of a hometown guy taking less money to play for his favorite team? The Browns plan to "vigorously defend" themselves, so it sounds like we're headed for a trial.

Carson Palmer-QB- Bengals

Carson Palmer admitted to reporters last week that his arm strength still needs some work.
Palmer has an idea of how to fix it: "Throw. "It’s just like when a track guy needs to get faster. You don’t do 5,000 squats, you run and run some more. To get your arm in shape you throw and continue to throw. So I will be throwing all summer long as well as in training camp." He missed 12 games last season with an elbow injury.

Edgerrin James-RB- Cardinals

According to agent Drew Rosenhaus, Edgerrin James received an offer from the Cardinals earlier this offseason but turned it down.
James is on the hunt for regular carries. "We will be selective," Rosenhaus said. "We want to make sure for Edge that he goes to a good situation. He would like an opportunity to have a significant role and a great opportunity for playing time. We may wait until right before camp and see what teams have the greatest need. We may wait until during or after camps when teams are dealing with injuries."

Dennis Northcutt-WR- Jaguars

Jaguars agreed to trade WR Dennis Northcutt to the Lions in exchange for S Gerald Alexander. The deal is contingent on both players passing physicals and will not be official until Monday.
While the trade shows the Jags' high regard for their three late-round receivers, it also may signal a lack of faith in Lions third-round pick Derrick Williams, who recently came down with a hamstring injury. Northcutt is a candidate to return punts for the Lions and will likely battle Williams and Ronald Curry for slot receiver duties. Jags GM Gene Smith did well to get a young safety for Northcutt, who is grossly overpaid and turning 32. It's a shock that anybody wanted him for more than the minimum salary, but these are the Lions.

Plaxico Burress-WR- Giants

Agent Drew Rosenhaus now says five teams are interested in Plaxico Burress.
"I expect more teams to enter the mix over the next few weeks as well," Rosenhaus all too predictably tweeted. Rosenhaus' announcement came just minutes after an ESPN report that Commissioner Goodell is beginning a probe of Burress. Coincidence? We think not.

Greg Jennings-WR- Packers

Greg Jennings' three-year, $26.35 million extension comes with an $11.25 million signing bonus.
Including his $5 million salary, Jennings stands to make $16.25 million in 2009. The upfront money plus the ability to hit free agency in 2013 makes Jennings' deal more player-friendly than previous reports would indicate.

Chris Johnson-RB- Titans

Chris Johnson defended himself from criticism that he's a "me first" player after attempting to separate from LenDale White and change his nickname to "Every Coach's Dream."
"I know people are saying I want to be an individual, that I’m not a team guy," Johnson said. "All I want is a new nickname, and it’s in fun. I am an entertaining guy." Johnson, a coaching staff and teammate favorite, remains on great terms with White (and is now dubbing LenDale "Every Coach's Nightmare"). Fantasy owners shouldn't worry about Johnson blossoming into a full-blown diva.

Mike Goodson-RB- Panthers

Panthers signed fourth-round RB Mike Goodson to a four-year contract.
A scatback/kick returner out of Texas A&M, Goodson offers a change of pace from DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. The Panthers were impressed by his work out of the slot this spring, but he's a long way from fantasy value as the No. 3 back.

Julius Jones-RB- Seahawks

New Seahawks offensive coordinator Greg Knapp recently revealed that he will use a rotation of runners in his backfield this season.
"I definitely prefer that," he said. "The game has gotten so physical. The defense has gotten so strong and so fast, it’s hard for one back to carry the load." Julius Jones, the favorite to lead the team in carries, will lose red zone work to T.J. Duckett. Change of pace back Justin Forsett will also have a role, turning the backfield into a fantasy quagmire.

Brett Favre-QB- Jets

A spokesman for the NFL Players Association confirmed that a contract for Brett Favre has not been filed.
A copy of the contract is sent to both the NFL and the NFLPA when it's signed by player and team. Favre and the Vikings may have agreed to terms on a deal, but it has yet to be finalized.
