Matt Cassel-QB- Chiefs

// July 14th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // rotoworld news

Chiefs signed QB Matt Cassel to a six-year, $63 million contract, including $28 million guaranteed and $40.5 million in the first three seasons.
The Chiefs would’ve been on the hook for an insane $14.651M salary had Cassel played his first season in Kansas City with no extension. Cassel, 27, has been a starter for one year of his life since high school. Committing top-five QB money (and ironically, more than Tom Brady makes) to Cassel is an enormous risk, but the Chiefs believe offensive guru Todd Haley can harness his solid all-around skill set. We think it’s a risk worth taking, but the contract could haunt the franchise for years if it goes sour.

Derrick Ward-RB- Buccaneers

// July 14th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // rotoworld news

According to FOXSports’ John Czarnecki, “everyone knows” that Derrick Ward will be the Bucs’ featured offensive player this season.
We do know Ward has every-down ability as a receiver, inside runner, and pass protector. We also know he makes more money and is likely to get the ball more than than Earnest Graham. We just don’t know who’s going to get goal-line carries. Regardless, Ward’s late fifth-round ADP sure seems low.

Fred Taylor-RB- Patriots

// July 14th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // rotoworld news

Beat reporter Mike Reiss expects Fred Taylor to get the second most snaps in the Patriots’ backfield this season, behind only Kevin Faulk.
Even if Faulk plays more, Taylor will probably start. It remains to be seen if he’ll be used in short yardage, where Taylor was behind Maurice Jones-Drew in Jacksonville. Either way, Reiss expects the Pats to ride the “hot hand.”
